TOURISTS and visitors to Penang can now get copies of the brochure featuring the state’s ‘Penang Food Trail’ which lists 27 of the top hawker fare in the northeast district on the island.
State Tourism Development and Culture Committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang said addresses of the coffee shops, stalls and restaurants serving such food were also listed in the brochure and marked out in the George Town map.
“We’ve printed 50,000 copies and placed them at 40 Visit Penang brochure racks around the state. These brochures will also be distributed at fairs held locally and abroad,” he told a press conference at Komtar on Thursday.
Among the 27 types of food listed in the trail are char koay teow, laksa, poh piah, wan tan mee, chicken rice, nasi kandar, roti canai, putu mayong, fried oyster, nasi campur, burgers and ice kacang.
Law said the state planned to come up with another edition of ‘Penang Food Trail’ in the next few months which would feature some of the best food found in the southwest part of the island and on the mainland.
He said some 20 types of hawker food had been inserted in an online poll on the Visit Penang website to select the 12 best food for Penang.
Among the hawker dishes listed for the poll are Hokkien mee, nasi lemak, mee udang, roti canai, murtabak, cendol, satay, banana leaf rice, curry mee and chee cheong fun.
The website is now open for voting at http://www.visitpenang.gov.my/portal/poll-xt.html until Sept 30.
Those who wished to vote online could only do it once.
Law said he expected the new edition for the food trail to be out next month after the conclusion of the poll.
