New museum to spur Johor Baru

The opening of the first Chinese history museum here will help bring the city back to life and spur tourism.

Johor Baru Tiong Hua Association manager Eric Ku said besides conserving the culture of the Chinese in Johor, the museum would add to the variety of cultural attractions in the city that could draw tourists to the area.

Located at a 60-year-old building along Jalan Ibrahim in the heart of the city, the museum would feature a collection of artefacts related to the Cantonese, Hokkien, Hainanese, Hakka and Teochew clans, he said.

Flu scare keeping tourists away

Foreign tourists, especially those from Japan, South Korea and Indonesia, are cancelling their travel plans because of the rise in A(H1N1) cases globally.

The local tourism industry was also affected as about 90% of Japanese travellers have cancelled their trips to the state, Malaysian Tourist Guides Council president Jimmy Leong said yesterday.

“Many of these Japanese tourists cancel their travel plans because they are afraid to board flights that may expose them to the influenza.
