MORE than 8,000 people thronged Jalan Pasar in Bukit Mertajam to witness the burning of the giant Tai Su Yeah (King of Hades) effigy on Saturday night.
It took only several minutes for the flames to engulf the 8.8m-tall paper effigy which was to mark the sending off of the deity after the 15-day Hungry Ghost Festival.
The grand event which falls on the seventh lunar month of the Chinese calendar was organised by the Bukit Mertajam Yu Lan Prayers Association.
