Malaysian airlines should operate more flights to Singapore to take advantage of the bilateral air agreement that allows up to 70 flights a week on the Penang-Singapore route, instead of letting Singaporean airlines dominate the market.
Currently, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) operates seven flights a week whereas Singapore Airlines (SIA) has 18.
By June 1, Singaporean airlines SilkAir and SIA will ply the route 21 times a week compared with 14 by Malaysian airlines (MAS and AirAsia).
By July 1, another Singaporean airline, Jetstar, will be plying the route seven times a week, increasing the number of flights by Singaporean airlines to 28 times a week.
